STYLE | Stay Ready For Air Max Day

March 22, 2017 / By Zaneta Vincent / 0 comments

In honour of Air Max Day coming up on March 26th, we wanted to celebrate the history of one of our favourite and most beloved silhouettes, Nike's Air Max 90.

The Air Max 90 debuted in 1990 as the second running shoe following the Air Max 1, designed by architect turned sneaker designer, Tinker Hatfield. Tinker blended the mixed colours and shapes from the midsole separated from front and back sections to allow performance and possible material options all the way to the upper whist displaying "Visible Air" for all to see producing a stand out look.

In 1990 The Air Max III or now known as Air Max 90 made its official debut with "Hyvent Orange" bringing an iconic look to life. While they are widely recognised by their "Infrared" nickname nowadays, the original Air Max '90 at the time never pulled off a true Infrared hue.

Fast forwarding to 2002 following the first official release in 1990, the OG Air Max 90 went underground for almost 12 years making the 2002 release the closest a consumer could get to a pair.

Four decades later, the Air Max 90 is still as strong as ever, marking it's 2017 release with the Air Max 90 Ultra 2.0 Infrared rendition updated in Nike's breathable woven Flyknit upper that sits atop the Air Max sole unit. The bright red accents can in turn be seen at the eyelets, midsole, outsole and heel and is available here now so you can make sure that you celebrate with us!
